Why use white? A color photograph of a flower is lovely, but look to a black-and-white photo to more fully appreciate how the flower captures light, or how it curves in an impeccable arc. So I value white because it’s a neutral color that doesn’t interfere with my underlying content. Because of its neutrality, it also allows you to see how a material interacts with its environment, taking on local patinas of rust or dirt or wear.
As for the whitest-of-whites, it’s like the blackest-of-blacks. They are both expressions of light whether reflected or absorbed, and as such they are simply sublime. |
